Web Technology is your best and worst friend for Online Marketing

I come across marketers everyday who ask me about web technology tools. If you're not taking maximum advantage of web technology to market your professional services, you are behind the times, and missing out on huge opportunities.

Before email was widely available, marketing newsletters, coupons, etc., were printed on paper and sent by mail. There's no question that e-mail is a more economical solution for sending a newsletter or a coupon. Before it would cost you hundreds of dollars to create and mail a newsletter to your client list. Now due to the advent of technology you can create your own newsletter and get them out in the mail (e-mail)... You can send tens of thousands for only pennies. With an ezine, technology can save you money and allow you to extend your marketing reach. This is one of the many ways that web technology can be your friend.

Broadcast email can be an efficient solution for following up with prospects who already know about you. But it's a terrible way to introduce yourself to a prospect for the first time. Far too many coaches, consultants, trainers, and other professionals add subscribers to their ezine or autoresponder lists without their permission. Not only is this ineffective as a marketing strategy since most readers simply delete e-mail from people they don't recognize, but it can seriously backfire when someone is offended by your unsolicited mail. Be careful and responsible. Only use e-amil addresses from clients that gladly give it to you. Otherwise, it becomes useless.

* Using email autoresponders can help you automate your follow-up with
likely prospects. Just subscribe a prospect to an autoresponder list once, then send periodic broadcasts to the whole list, encouraging prospects to hire you or attend your learning programs. Be careful not to send emails to potential clients too frequently, otherwise they will just unsubscribe from your list or worse; mark your email as spam (and you go right to their spam folder...they don't even see the
e-mail!)

* I know this a no brainer, but I will mention it any way; because I know
of many people who are marketing a product .... strictly from myspace/facebook or ads on craigslist. You need a website. A web site can attract new customers to your business from across the street or from another country. If your site has high rankings in the search engines under appropriate categories, or many links from keywords prospective clients might search for, you may get dozens of inquiries from
people who otherwise would never hear of you.

* Participating in online discussion lists, forums and message boards can
allow you to network with a large group of people in your target market without
leaving your home or office. Hosting your own Webinars or live chat permits you to
be a public speaker without the time and expense of travel, and speak to national
or global audiences.

WIKI YOUR BUSINESS. Write a Wikipedia entry about your business or product. This works better for those with a specialized product or business. Wikipedia entries rank high with search engines, particularly Google. And they can gather extra exposure for your business. Considering there are more than 684 million Wikipedia readers on the Internet, it's a great place to create a presence for your business or product.

Myspace and Facebook allow you to place inexpensive and keyword relevant ads for
your product or service. This was not even available a few short years ago!
(keyword targeted ads) for gathering clients to your website. For these reasons and more, it appears that using web technology is an affordable way to reach prospective
clients easily. You can potentially attract larger numbers of prospects for
fewer dollars than with many more traditional methods of outreach (newspapers, direct mail, radio, cable, etc.).

USE VIDEO TO TELL YOUR STORY. You can create great promotional videos for your
business using simple tools like Windows Movie Maker. Google loves videos. When
you make them, upload them to YouTube, Metacafe and other video sharing sites
for maximum exposure.

* Technology makes it easy to hide. Get from behind your computer and give a
perspective client a call! When you have a web presence, an ezine, and use e-mail
autoresponders to contact your customers, you may think there's no reason to contact them in person. A web site or e-mail isn't an equal substitute for a prospect hearing your voice or seeing your face.
